Selected Essays on Kant by Lewis White Beck by Hoke Robinson,
The North American Kant Society was founded at the Sixth International Kant Congress, held at Pennsylvania State University in 1985. Lewis White Beck did not attend the congress, but his presence was felt throughout. In the years that followed, he was always available with further encouragement and advice, and the Society lost a friend when he died in the summer of 1997. This volume is a collection of Beck's most important essays on Kant's life and work. Beck represented Kant's legacy as a living and defensible philosophy when it was generally considered to be of antiquarian interest, and his work is responsible in no small measure for the Kant renaissance of the past 30 years. His essays on Kant reflect and advance twentieth-century philosophical concerns, and he stands as a model for generations of academic historians of philosophy by resisting the false dichotomy between philosophy and the history of philosophy prevalent among Anglo-American and Continental philosophers alike. From questions about the nature of analyticity to the validity of Wittgenstein's 'private language argument' to the latest developments in the history of science, Beck's Kant interpretation never failed to connect to the present.

Immanuel Kant: Prolegomena to Any Future Metaphysics: That Will Be Able to Come Forward as Science: With Selections from the Critique of Pure Reason
This new, revised edition of Kant's Prolegomena, the best introduction to the theoretical side of his philosophy, presents his thought clearly through careful attention to his original language. Also included are selections from the Critique of Pure Reason, which fill out and explicate some of Kant's central arguments (including famous sections of the Schematism and Analogies), and in which Kant himself explains his special terminology. The first reviews of the Critique, to which Kant responded in the Prolegomena, are included in this revised edition.

Ecological selection - Ecological selection (or environmental selection or survival selection or individual selection or asexual selection) refers to natural selection minus sexual selection, i.e.

Directional selection - In population genetics, directional selection (sometimes referred to as positive selection) occurs when natural selection favors a single allele and therefore allele frequency continuously shifts in one direction. It is in contradistinction to balancing selection where selection may favor multiple alleles, or background selection which removes deleterious mutations from a population.

Balancing selection - Balancing selection refers to forms of natural selection which work to maintain genetic polymorphisms (or multiple alleles) within a population. Balancing selection is in contrast to directional selection which favor a single allele.

Feature selection - Feature selection, also known as subset selection or variable selection, is a process commonly used in machine learning, wherein a subset of the features available from the data are selected for application of a learning algorithm. Feature selection is necessary either because it is computationally infeasible to use all available features, or because of problems of estimation when limited data samples (but a large number of features) are present.

Indeed, the historical importance of this aspect or branch of zoology (since Darwin) This article considers the history of zoology was previously so great that the study of human structure the knowledge of animals proceeded. In his detailed commentaries, Nick Huggett weaves together the readings and links them to our modern understanding of space. Learning through original texts can be a powerful heuristic tool.
